We geven ons volledig in een cooking class, de kinderen hanteren de vijzel en de wok, no problem die mix van Engels spreken en Aziatisch koken. Het valt ons dan pas op hoe uitgelaten de kids reageren op de leuke internationale bende en het sociale contact. Zij lezen de onderlinge verhoudingen en genieten van de interactie, wie is leuk, wie was grappig, wie was stil…
Vanaf dan komt het goed. Eerst nog een slechte groep, 8 niet-engelssprekende Chinezen die met ons 49 ziplines afvliegen in de junglebergen van Chiang Mai. Aangezien zij overal mee lachen viel het hen niet op hoezeer wij met hen hebben gelachen…hoogtepunt voor ons de abseil van 50m door een gat naar beneden…het Chinees voor sterven ter plekke….lachen als je zelf al beneden staat.
Via Chiang Rai belanden we aan de border met Laos, een smooth bordercrossing, welkom in een land dat ons doet denken aan Flores, en waar ze best wat leraars Engels naartoe sturen.
